PhD, Iowa State University Research emphasis: Dr. Rottinghaus's research focuses on using chromatographic techniques for developing new analytical methodology as well as isolation, purification of a number of natural products. Major interests have centered on fungal metabolites (mycotoxins), Tall Fescue alkaloids (ergovaline) and phyto and fungal estrogens. He has produced a number of important mycotoxins (T-2 toxin, diacetoxyscirpenol, aflatoxin, fumonisin, ochratoxin A, zearalenone and moniliformin) in large quantities from fungal culture for animal feeding studies in cattle, swine, chickens, turkeys, ducks, mink, catfish, and laboratory animals. Current research involves in vitro and in vivo examination of natural sorbents and fermentation products for decontaminating and remediation of animal feeds containing high levels of mycotoxins and developing rapid analytical methodology for the active components of medicinally important plants.
He is in charge of the Analytical Core Facility for the MU Center for Phytonutrient and Phytochemical Studies (MUCPPS) and is part of the research group that makes up the Fusarium/Poultry Research Laboratory at the University of Missouri.
Teaching: Veterinary Analytical Toxicology Lectures
