Information technology and computing
has become nearly ubiquitous in all aspects of the veterinary
profession. During your education at MU’s College of Veterinary
Medicine you will be using computers to access, evaluate
and disseminate information. It is your responsibility
as a student of the institution and of the profession to
use information technology resources in a manner that reflects
positively upon the veterinary community. The following
guidelines should be adhered to in order to ensure compliance
with CVM and MU policies.
ID’s and Passwords:
All students are assigned a unique ID
when they first register for classes. This ID is often
referred to as a “PawPrint” and will be the primary ID throughout
your tenure at MU. Your password is automatically generated
when the ID is created and must be changed as soon as you
activate your account. Student’s PawPrint and Password
are to be used ONLY by the student that they were assigned
to and NOT to be given to anyone else. You are ultimately
responsible for ANY and ALL communication that is tied back
to your PawPrint.

All MU students automatically receive
an e-mail account with a quota of 40 MB. This account can
be accessed wherever you have an Internet connection from
the following address: http://webmail.mizzou.edu.
You will use your PawPrint ID and established password to
access the account. If you exceed your quota, the following
actions will be taken:
MU will only deliver mail to your @mizzou.edu account
and will not guarantee delivery to any other email address
or system. The @mizzou.edu is the “official” delivery point
for communication about classes, exams, grades and other
official CVM related activities and announcements. Email
can be forwarded to other accounts, but is HIGHLY discouraged.
Once email has left the MU system, we are no longer responsible
for its delivery or integrity. We suggest that you maintain
personal email accounts (Gmail, Hotmail, AOL, etc,) to use
for family/friend communication and use your MU account
for professional/educational communication.
Email usage is a privilege, not a right.
Misuse of this medium can result in loss of service for
temporary or extended periods of time. As a general rule
of thumb, do not send email that others might find offensive
(jokes, images, URL’s, etc). Please see the MU Acceptable
Use Policy for a detailed description of what is/is not
acceptable. http://iatservices.missouri.edu/aup/

Copyright:
The Internet has brought with it the increased opportunity
to copy other’s intellectual property to use as your own.
Quite simply, this is stealing. Whether it is text that
has been lifted from an article or music downloaded from
a file sharing location, it is your responsibility to follow
all federal rules and regulation that govern this activity.
Failure to comply with these regulations can result in serious
consequences ranging from academic dismissal to civil and
criminal penalties. For more information about copyright
infringement, please see the following URL’s:

Computer Labs and Printing:
The CVM has two large computer facilities located
in the main teaching building and are supported through
student computing fees. The main lab is located inW-234-O(PC
Lab) Vet. Med.
Building and is available 24/7. The door is open from 7:00 am – 5:00
pm and available thereafter through the use of your ID Badge.
The second computer facility is located in W-240 (Histo
Lab) and is available when classes are not scheduled. Both
rooms have schedules posted outside the door listing the
open lab times.
Printing in the CVM is controlled through
a printer charge system. Each student is granted a 700
page credit that are intended to last the entire year (from
August to August). If you run out of credits, your student
charge will be billed .05 per page printed and will be payable
on a monthly basis. Courses that have electronic note sets
can be printed in the computer lab or on your home system
if so desired.
Computerized Testing:
The CVM utilizes a customized testing interface that all
students will use to take a majority of their exams and
quizzes. Computerized testing allows for the incorporation
of images, movies, sounds and a multitude of question types.
It also provides instant feedback of scores and incorrect
questions to reinforce missed concepts. This process might
be foreign to some of students, but we are confident that
you will quickly adapt to this modality of testing.
Students will take the computerized exams
in one of our two main computer labs. All academic standards
and regulations will be strictly enforced. The computer/testing
labs have security cameras for your own protection against
academic dishonestly.
Course Notes and Materials:
Most, but not all, CVM instructors will make their course’s
notes and presentations available on the CVM website. Depending
on instructor prerogative, they may choose to provide students
with PDF and/or PowerPoint/Word files of their teaching
material. Classes participating in the electronic materials
program will have their course website posted at the following
URL: http://cvm.missouri.edu/course-materials.htm
Students may access their class lecture and exam schedules
online at the following address: http://cvm.missouri.edu/course-materials.htm
Each class has their own calendar link and is open
for other classes to view as well. This resource is handy
to have available when scheduling College-wide events and
activities.
Student Testing &
Study Room W-216
This room is equipped with four
private computer rooms and several study carrels.
This room is mainly used for testing and when available
is open to students, each room has a security
camera for your own protection against academic dishonestly.
All interior rooms have an id reader, due to soundproofing
of the doors, after you scan your id--push the door in and
then pull open. The calendar on the hall door will
indicate if the room is available, during unavailable times
your id will be deactivated and unable to access the room.
Please do not leave items in rooms to "hold them"
during classes or long periods of time. If your belongings
have been left inside and you are unable to access please
contact the IT Office in W-234 Vet. Med. Bldg.
Computer Check Out Devices:
The CVM IT Unit has laptop computers, Tablet PC computers,
digital cameras and digital video cameras available for
student check out. The devices can be used for any event
and does not have to be CVM related. The check out period
is 3 days.
