COLLEGE
REGULATIONS AND GUIDELINES AFFECTING STUDENTS - Class Examination
and Make-Up Examination Guidelines
Class Examinations: Announced
examination dates and times will be given by the instructor
on the first day of each course. A change in the announced
date or time can be arranged within the first 7 days of an
instructional period by majority vote of the class and instructor
consent. After this time, a change in date or time requires
instructor consent and a unanimous vote of the class present
at a regularly scheduled class, or a unanimous electronic
vote. (Approved by Executive Committee 1/06)
Make-up Examinations:
Make-up examinations for individual students are given at
the discretion of the instructor. An excused absence should
be obtained from the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to
maintain confidentiality. Excused absences are defined as
personal emergencies beyond the control of the individual,
such as serious illness or injury to the student involved
or his/her immediate family, or a death in the immediate family.
Excused absences are not given for convenience of holiday
travel. (Approved by Executive Committee 12/93)
Academic Integrity: Academic integrity is fundamental to the activities and principles of a university. All members of the academic community must be confident that each person's work has been responsibly and honorably acquired, developed, and presented. Any effort to gain an advantage not given to all students is dishonest whether or not the effort is successful. The academic community regards breaches of the academic integrity rules as extremely serious matters. Sanctions for such a breach may include academic sanctions from the instructor, including failing the course for any violation, to disciplinary sanctions ranging from probation to expulsion. The course instructor has the responsibility to assign an academic penalty to any student who breeches the rules of academic integrity. Disciplinary sanctions are considered by the honor code committee. Please see the honor code (http://www.cvm.missouri.edu/stuhandbook_sec5.htm) for details. When in doubt about plagiarism, paraphrasing, quoting, collaboration, or any other form of cheating, consult the course instructor.
Behavior During Examinations:
Actions such as displaying a test for others to see, looking
at another student's test, attempt to communicate with another
student in any manner during a test, or trying to use notes
during a test are actions considered inappropriate and may
be construed as cheating. Duplication, distribution, or sharing
of any information pertaining to a test is prohibited and
considered an honor code violation unless the instructor has
granted permission for this activity. Please consult the student
handbook, or contact the course instructor or Associate Dean
for Academic Affairs if you are unsure of appropriate test-taking
behavior or procedure (Approved by the Office of Academic
Affairs 10/2006).
Absences from Class, Preclinical
Curriculum: Excused absences are defined as personal
emergencies beyond the control of the individual, such as
serious illness or injury to the student involved or his/her
immediate family, or a death in the immediate family. Excused
absences are not given for convenience of holiday travel.
(Approved by Executive Committee 12/93)
Note that the policy for excused absences
is limited to personal or medical hardships. Excused absences
are NOT granted to attend meetings or conferences unless there
is exceptional professional benefit to the student. In these
cases, the instructors must be contacted well in advance of
the absence to arrange to make up material or examinations.
If you are aware prior to class that you
will be absent, please do the following:
1. Inform Dr. Cott and Dr. Dodam of your
upcoming absence. An e-mail communication to Drs. Cott and
Dodam will suffice for notification.
2. Inform your instructors that you will
be absent and arrange to make up any material/testing.
If your absence is unexpected, you
may simply notify Dr. Dodam and Dr. Cott. They will notify
your instructors for you. You must contact your instructors
upon your return to make up any material that you have missed.
