Halting Overpopulation of Pets through Education Expansion
Millions
of abandoned dogs and cats live short and cruel lives
in big cities. Shelter veterinarians are overwhelmed
by these numbers and can't provide enough medical help
to make these animals suitable for adoption.
Project HOPE, led by nationally recognized veterinarian Dr. Richard Meadows, is a volunteer project designed to provide additional veterinary medicine resources in Kansas City and St. Louis.
The objectives of the HOPE project include: reducing the overpopulation and killing of unwanted companion animals (sheltered and feral) through spay/neuter surgeries; increasing the health and adoptability of shelter animals through health and dental care; advancing knowledge and interest in shelter medicine, surgery, and dentistry through coursework and clinical rotations; and, advancing knowledge and interest in epidemiology and public health (including disease ecology, infectious disease control, and population health) through shelter medicine coursework and feral cat trap-neuter-release program studies.
Donations to this project will help equip a mobile veterinary clinic that can travel to the areas of most need.
