Veterinary Professor Recognized By Veterinary Clinicians Organization
Leah
A. Cohn, associate professor of small animal internal medicine
at the University of Missouri Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital,
was selected as the 2006 American Association of Veterinary
Clinicians (AAVC) Faculty Achievement Award winner.
The AAVC was formed in 1958. It is an organization of veterinary
clinicians who are engaged in teaching and/or research at the
professional, graduate, or postgraduate level. Membership includes
faculty in clinical departments at veterinary schools and colleges
and practices and institutions involved in the education of
veterinarians in internships and residencies. Its mission is
to enhance the quality of veterinary clinical teaching, service,
and research.
This award will be presented at the AAVC Annual Membership Meeting
preceding the ACVIM meeting on May 31, in Louisville, KY.
Dr. Cohn earned her DVM degree from the University of Tennessee,
Knoxville, and her PhD in Veterinary Microbiology and Immunology
from North Carolina State University, Raleigh.
She is a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Internal
Medicine. Her research emphasis centers on infectious and immune
mediated disease and airway disease, including cystic fibrosis,
and diabetic mellitus. Current projects include investigation
of Cytauxzoan felis infection.
Dr. Cohn teaches in both didactic medicine courses within the
MU College of Veterinary Medicine curriculum as well as the
clinical block rotation of Internal Medicine. Other teaching
duties include graduate courses in Clinical Veterinary Endocrinology
and Clinical Veterinary Immunology as well as Journal Club and
conferences for house staff.
Dr. Cohn has also served as visiting professor at St. George
University College of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada, West Indies.
